It is important to remember when appraising your vehicle for an online sale that just because the potential buyers of your car haven't been able to evaluate it themselves doesn’t mean that you can describe an old banger as being in excellent unmarked condition just to secure a better price.

There's no need to go over your vehicle with a fine tooth comb when looking for faults, but it is important to be honest. Any buyer worth their salt will inspect your car on completion and if it isn’t as described (within reason) then they would be within their rights to offer a lower amount or withdraw from the sale altogether.

If your car has a couple of scratches, trolley dents, stone chips, scuffed alloys etc... let potential buyers know with a brief description. Often this type of damage won’t effect the value of the car too much as most of it can be put down to fair wear and tear. But it is important you let the buyer know in advance. If the vehicle doesn’t have full service history…please don’t say it has. The buyer will soon discover this to be a lie on collection when they check all the paper work.

Equally make sure you let them know about any items that may add value to the car, i.e. brand new tyres, a recent service, climate control etc…

If you are honest in your appraisal of your vehicle you can be certain that the offer you receive from www.freecarvaluations.co.uk is what we will transfer into your account on collection. Our drivers are not there to haggle with you over the price and minor discrepancies in your description. They are simply there to make a very brief inspection and drive the vehicle back to us.

Tips on how to prepare your car for sale:

  1. Make sure it is clean inside and out
  2. If a scratch will polish out then try
  3. Ideally tyres should have 3mm or tread
  4. Ensure chips are fixed in windscreens
  5. Carry out a service if overdue
  6. Keep proof of service history
  7. Keep receipts for any work you have had done
  8. Be honest when describing your car
Check any car. For that extra piece of mind...
